Ivy Rookie of the Year Spahr Leads Program-Record Four All-Ivy Honorees
February 20, 2020 | Women's Squash
Freshman Caroline Spahr has earned Princeton's third consecutive Ivy League women's squash Rookie of the Year honoree, and she leads four Tigers on the first-team All-Ivy League, the league office announced Thursday.
Spahr joins Raneem El Torky and Hiu Lam Liu in making it three straight Ivy Rookies of the Year for the program, five in the last seven years and eight in the award's history.
Princeton's four honorees match a program-best total last reached in 1998 and also reached in 1992 and 1997.
With Spahr on the first-team All-Ivy League are teammates El Torky, junior Emme Leonard and sophomore Elle Ruggiero.
Spahr played primarily at third and fourth and most often at fourth, where she had a 6-2 record including 4-1 over the last five duals of the regular season.
It's also the first career Ivy honor for Leonard and Ruggiero. Leonard split time primarily between courts three and four, ending the regular season on court three where she won four of her last five matches. Ruggiero climbed the ladder throughout the season, starting with three straight wins on court five and playing the last six matches of the regular season on court one.
For El Torky, it's the second consecutive first-team All-Ivy recognition. El Torky split time between first and second, ending the season on court two by winning four matches in a row and five of the six she played there.
Princeton's four honorees will help lead the team into the CSA team championships, slated to begin Friday at Yale.
