Softball Team Sweeps Friday in D.C., Schedule Changes for Weekend
February 28, 2020 | Softball
Due to weather, Saturday's and Sunday's schedule has been adjusted. Princeton will now have one game Saturday, at 12 p.m. against Georgetown, and two games Sunday, at 9 a.m. against George Washington and 11 a.m. against Morgan State.
In Friday's first game against Georgetown, a five-run fourth inning helped turn the day in Princeton's favor before the Tigers held off a Hoya rally.
Mackenzie Meyer hit a solo homer in the second inning before Georgetown answered with a Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza two-run homer and a Savannah Jones RBI hit put the Hoyas in front 3-1 in the third.
Then came Princeton's five-run fourth inning, beginning with an Allison Harvey solo homer and continuing with a Haley Hoffman walk that picked up a Meyer walk and a three-run triple from Hannah Lutz that picked up an Alex Colón base hit, Hoffman's walk and an error that put Madison Hamilton on.
Princeton had the 6-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth when a Mae Forshey double for Georgetown came home on an error that allowed Jones to reach. The error and a base hit put two on for Delaney Darden's base hit that made it 6-5 Princeton.
Each team had a run in the seventh, with a Harvey base hit, a Meyer fielder's choice and a Hamilton triple adding up to a run for a 7-5 lead and Jones' leadoff homer for Georgetown making it 7-6 before Princeton held on.
Allie Reynolds got the win in the circle for Princeton with Alexis Laudenslager getting the save on an inning and a third of work.
Early runs and late runs were all the scoring in Princeton's 4-3 win over Towson, which ended in walk-off fashion.
Princeton got in the board in the bottom of the first when a Megan Donahey walk and a Serena Starks base hit put two on for a pair of groundouts to pick up Donahey with Meyer getting the RBI.
Towson answered in the top of the second with a walk that put a runner on for a two-run homer by Nicole Kidwiler to put Towson up 2-1.
Princeton tied it up in the bottom of the second when a Donahey base hit followed a single and two walks earlier in the inning.
It stayed 2-2 into the eighth when Towson took the lead in the top half as the international tiebreaker runner and a throwing error made it 3-2. Princeton cashed in the international tiebreaker as well with Harvey, the first batter of the inning, hitting a two-run walk-off shot for the win.
