Men's Basketball Falls Just Short at Yale, 66-63

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In a high-quality game of Ivy League men's basketball, the Princeton University men's basketball team came up just short against Yale University Saturday night inside the John J. Lee Amphitheater, 66-63.
Sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn led the Tigers with a team-high 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting while sophomore Ethan Wright had a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Junior Ryan Schwieger also added 11 points and five rebounds for Princeton.
Llewellyn spun then laid the ball in with his left hand for the game's opening basket with 19:42 on the clock, but the Bulldogs raced out to an early 9-2 advantage. A senior Richmond Aririguzoh layup with 16:17 remaining in the half would halt Yale's run.
A driving layup by Wright trimmed the Bulldogs lead to 11-8 with 13:58 on the clock but the Bulldogs rallied and took an 18-10 lead. Five-straight Princeton points coming courtesy of a Llewellyn driving layup and senior Jose Morales step-back three-pointer would cut Yale's advantage to 18-15 with 8:18 remaining in the half.
Junior Jerome Desrosiers would cut to the basket and lay it in with 7:44 on the clock to make it a 19-17 game then a Wright three-pointer knotted the score at 23-23 with 2:06 remaining in the half. Schwieger took a hand-off and drained a three that gave Princeton a 26-23 advantage with 1:37 on the clock, but the Bulldogs would take a 27-26 lead into halftime.
Yale opened the second half on a 7-0 run that was stopped by a Desrosiers three-pointer with 18:14 remaining, making it a 33-29 game.
Llewellyn spun down the lane the dropped in the layup with 15:56 on the clock, but Yale still held a 39-31 advantage.
The Bulldogs extended their lead to 12 points, but a three-point play by Wright with 10:15 remaining made it a 49-43 contest. Sophomore Drew Friberg knocked down a transition three with 9:29 on the clock to make it 49-46 then a Wright layup with 8:38 left to play trimmed the Bulldogs' lead to four points at 52-48.
A three-pointer by Wright followed by a Llewellyn layup with 3:21 on the clock made it a 62-59 contest then a pair of Friberg free throws with 1:14 remaining cut it to one point at 62-61.
Coming out of a timeout with 0:17 on the clock, Llewellyn took it to the basket and finished to make it 64-63, but the Bulldogs held on for the 66-63 win.
