Men’s Tennis Falls Just Short at Clemson, 4-3
February 07, 2020 | Men's Tennis
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Princeton University men's tennis won the doubles point against Clemson University match Friday afternoon, but could not hold on and came up just short 4-3 inside the Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
"Credit to Clemson for defending their home court and playing an inspired match," said head coach Billy Pate. "Even after winning a close doubles point we didn't seize momentum the way we needed to. The sense of urgency wasn't quite where we needed it though it's something we will learn from and be better starting in our next match. Our guys did fight their tails off and put us in a good position to get the win but Clemson stepped up at the end."
Doubles
While Princeton fell at the No. 3 position, the Tigers were able to bounce back and win the doubles point. Damian Rodriguez and Karl Poling overcame Matteo Vialmin and Jacob Jahn 6-1 at No. 2 then at No. 1 Seggerman and Barki outlasted Pierre-Louise Dodens and Gabriel Diaz Freire 7-6 (7-4).
Singles
Poling was able to pick up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Vialmin at No. 2 and at No. 2 Rodriguez got the better of Giusca 6-4, 6-4.
