Men's Basketball Falls Just Short at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's basketball team's comeback attempt fell just short Saturday afternoon when it suffered a 73-62 loss to Cornell University inside Newman Arena.
Sophomore Jaelin Llewellyn led the Tigers with 13 points while also pulling down five rebounds. Senior Richmond Aririguzoh and sophomore Ethan Wright each had 10 points while senior Jose Morales added eight points, two assists and two steals off the bench.
While Columbia was able to take an early 6-0 advantage, Wright got the Tigers on the scoreboard with a short jump with 16:33 remaining in the half. Cornell would continue its hot start, racing out to a 13-4 lead with 12:31 on the clock.
Junior Jerome Desrosiers made an immediate impact upon entering the game, bullying his way to the basket for two with 11:58 left in the half then draining a long three-pointer with 10:27 remaining in the half, but the Big Red still held a 16-9 advantage.
Cornell would then jump out to a 29-16 lead with 6:32 on the clock, but a three-pointer from the top of the circle by Schwieger made it a 10-point game with 5:20 left in the half at 29-19. Cornell was able to further extend its lead prior to halftime, going into the break with a 35-22 advantage into the half.
Morales gave the Tigers an immediate spark off the bench in the second half, completing a three-point play with 14:28 on the clock to make it a 44-30 game then sinking a jumper with 13:21 remaining that made it 44-32.
A short jumper by Llewellyn made it a single-digit game at 50-41 with 8:44 on the clock, but the Big Red were able to keep the Tigers at bay and extend its lead to 56-43 with 7:18 left to play.
Princeton refused to quit as Wright's three-pointer with 2:51 remaining cut Cornell's lead to 61-52 then Morales would find Friberg for a three-pointer with 2:36 left to play that made it a 61-55 game.
Llewellyn spun then dropped in a layup with 1:40 on the clock to make it 65-57, but the Big Red was able to hold on for the for the 73-62 victory.
