NEW YORK – Carlie Littlefield and Bella Alarie reached milestones as the No. 17 Princeton Tigers ran by the Columbia Lions, 77-52, at the Levien Gym on Friday evening.
Littlefield was one shy of her personal high with 24 points to lead all scorers. Her final bucket of the first half gave her 1,000 points in her career. She's the 26th player to reach that mark. Bella Alarie's free throw with 8:28 left in the game gave her 1,684 points, the most in program history.
Up by one, Princeton used an 8-2 spurt to jump in front, 14-7, with under a minute to go in the first quarter. A trey from the home unit set the contest at 14-10 after the first frame.
The Tigers allowed just one basket during a five-minute stretch of the second stanza to expand their advantage to double-digits, 25-15, with 2:47 to go. This And-1 by Littlefield gave her points No. 999 and 1,000.
Princeton kept Columbia at bay, leading by double digits for most of the third quarter before registering seven of eight to finish the frame and take a 55-39 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The Tigers put the game out of reach with an impressive 10-0 sprint to begin the fourth stanza and extend their advantage to 24. Columbia never threatened after that.
Alarie's record breaking points came on these free throws …
