Samara & Ellis of Men's Track & Field Garner Regional Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. – William M. Weaver Jr. '34 Head Coach of Men's Track & Field Fred Samara was honored as both the Ivy League and United States Track & Field Coaches U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Track & Field Men's Regional Coach of the Year Friday.
Additionally, Sam Ellis was also named USTFCCCA Men's Track Athlete of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Samara was named Ivy League Coach of the Year for the seventh time in nine years after helping guide the Tigers to their 23rd Ivy League indoor title last weekend. Samara was honored as Regional Coach of the Year for the sixth time, also earning the honor in 2004, 2007, 2011, 2012 and 2018.
Under Samara's tutelage, Princeton ended the Ivy League Championships with 173 points while Harvard University finished second with 116 and the University of Pennsylvania third with 91.
Under Samara's giudance, Andrei Iosivas was honors as the Most Outstanding Field Performer and Princeton earned first-place finishes in seven events.
Iosivas won the heptathlon while Joey Daniels earned a first-place finish and broke the school and conference records in the 60m hurdles. Ellis prevailed in the 1,000 and also earned a spot at the NCAA Championships in the mile after he broke a 29-year old school record earlier in the season at the Valentine Invite.
C.J. Licata won the shot put, Jeff Hollis came out on top in the high jump and Justice Dixon finished first in the 200. The team of Ellis, JC Colangelo, Scott Thompson and Eli Krahn also delivered a victory in the DMR.
