October 02, 2021 | Football
The game hung in the balance until well into the fourth quarter, but a pair of Collin Eaddy touchdowns turned a 10-7 Princeton lead into a 24-7 result. With the win, Princeton improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Ivy play. The Lions fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in Ivy play.
Eaddy finished 103 yards rushing, marking the fifth time in his career he's reached the 100-yard milestone. It's also his sixth career multi-rushing touchdown outing, giving him 21 overall. His 21 trips to the end zone are tied for 11th all-time in program history.
"It's a good feeling," said Eaddy. "It's up to us to have a balanced attack. We compliment each other well."
"He's one of the best backs to play here," said Charles W. Caldwell Jr. '21 Head Coach of Football Bob Surace. "With the number of great backs at Princeton, I've seen Keith Elias, Judd Garrett, you're talking about rare company."
The Tigers never trailed in the contest, but never really found traction until the offense put two touchdowns on the board in the final 8:50 of play. With the Tigers clinging to a 10-7 lead, and facing second and seven from the Columbia 26, Cole Smith connected with Carson Bobo on a 23-yard pass to set the Tigers up at the Lions' three-yard line. Two plays later, Eaddy plowed in from two yards out to give Princeton a 17-7 lead.
Following a three-and-out from the defense, Princeton added a true insurance touchdown with 2:26 to play. The Orange and Black ground up yards -- and the clock -- with a nine-play, 66-yard drive that ate up 4:47 and was capped with Eaddy's second touchdown of the day. This time, he turned nothing into a big something, breaking a tackle in the backfield -- the only Lion to get a hand on him -- and then dashing 17 yards to the end zone for a 24-7 lead that would hold up at the final whistle.Princeton 17, Columbia 7 | 8:50 4th

Princeton had built a 10-0 lead at halftime, the first points coming via a Jeffrey Sexton 42-yard field goal with 4:47 remaining in the first quarter. The Tigers dialed up a 12-play, 55-yard drive, pushing forward to the Columbia 16 before a sack on third down forced the field goal try from Sexton which was good from a career-high distance.
The Tigers added on their their lead midway through the second quarter, again capping a long drive. This time, it was a 14-play, 67-yard effort which ate up 7:34 of clock. Ja'Derris Carr rushed in from the 1-yard line for his first career touchdown -- a fitting end to a drive which saw the Tigers rush the ball on 13 of the drive's 14 plays.
Princeton's defense allowed 202 yards of offense to Columbia, but only eight rushing yards. The Tigers finished with four sacks including 2.5 from Uche Ndukwe. Ndukwe already has 4.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss this season which are career highs.Princeton 10, Columbia 0 | 8:40 2nd
