Princeton looks to bounce back from a loss at Temple as it returns to ivy League play on Saturday night with a trip to Providence and a 7 p.m. kickoff with Brown.
Both sides enter the weekend tied atop the Ivy table with three points, joined by Cornell in pacing the Ancient Eight through the first week of conference play. Princeton collected its three points via a 3-2 (2OT) win at Dartmouth last weekend while the Bears knocked off Columbia, 1-0, in a chippy affair which saw five yellow cards and three red cards issued -- all three reds were handed out in the final 0:15 of play, including one to Brown's Noah Atanda who will sit out Saturday's match.
The two teams last met on October 12, 2019 and battled to a 1-1 draw in Providence. The Bears had taken a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, and then had the Tigers further on their heels after a red card in the 54th minute. Danny Hampton came through in the 87th minute, booming home a free kick to earn a point for Princeton.
The Tigers will be looking for a second consecutive win to open an Ivy season for the first time since 2010.
Scouting Brown
Brown stopped a four-game skid with its 1-0 win over Columbia last Saturday. Derek Waleffe scored the game-winner in the 39th minute off a corner from Charlie Adams. Max Waldau recorded his first shutout of the season with four saves against the Lions. After his fifth goal of the season, Waleffe now leads the team with 11 points. The Bears will look to start league play at 2-0 for the first time since 2009. They finished Ivy play that year with a 5-2 mark and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
