Men's Cross Country Wins Mid-Atlantic Regional; Qualifies For NCAAs
November 12, 2021 | Men's Cross Country
Princeton's emerged victorious at the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regionals, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships in Tallahassee on November 20.
The Tigers had five of the top-11 finishers, scoring 40 points to take first place over Georgetown which was second with 49 points.
With the win and ensuing automatic bid, the Tigers have qualified for their 17th NCAA Championships as a team.
"This is such an exciting day for our team," said head coach Jason Vigilante. "We've been building all year towards this race. We've been through so much as a group, after missing the 2020 season we're so appreciative of these opportunities and our mindset as a group is to make the most of every chance we have to race together. Full credit to the student-athletes for making sure we have one more chance to compete together this season."
Depth was the key for the Tigers in the race. Princeton's highest finisher was fifth -- Jakob Kintzele -- but he was the first of five Tigers to cross over the next seven finishers. The Hoyas had the first and fourth-place finishers, but couldn't put together enough high finishes to overcome Princeton's tightly-packed effort.
