PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball team will take on Pac-12 opponent Oregon State University Sunday inside Gill Coliseum. The Beavers were an Elite Eight team in 2020-21.

Most recently, the Tigers overcame Marist College 80-61 on Wednesday, November 17, inside Jadwin Gymnasium. Senior Jaelin Llewellyn led the way with 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while senior Ethan Wright went 5-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 form beyond the arc for 15 points, and a game-high eight rebounds. Junior Ryan Langborg added a career-high 14 points, on 5-for-6 shooting from the field, and 4-for-5 shooting from three. He bested his previous career-high of 13 which he earned on two occasions; Friday, November 12, against the University of South Carolina, and Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the University of Indiana. Junior Keeshawn Kellman also made in impact in his first career start, scoring 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting, hauling in four rebounds, and blocking two shots.

Through Four Games
Defensively, Princeton sits atop the Ivy League as its 59.5 points allowed per game is a league-best, as is its field goal percentage defense of 0.247. Llewellyn leads Princeton in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. Wright ranks second in the Ivy League and leads the Tigers with 8.0 rebounds per game, while Evbuomwan's 19 assists are a team-high. Drew Friberg leads the team in steals with eight, and Evbuomwan, Kellman, freshman Mason Hooks, and freshman Darius Gakwasi each have a team-high two blocks.

Ivy League Weekly Honors
The Ivy League announced its first weekly honors of the 2021-22 men's basketball season Monday, and Llewellyn was named Ivy League Player of the Week. A Second Team All-Ivy League selection in 2019-20, this is the second Ivy Player of the Week honor for Llewellyn has received, as he also earned the award on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Going To Work Down Low
Kellman and Hooks have been making the most of their opportunities and providing options down low through the first four games of the season. In 11.3 minutes per game on the court, Kellman is averaging 7.3 points per game on 11-for-13 shooting, and 2.3 rebounds per game. Hooks has averaged 6.5 points per game on 11-for-18 shooting from the field, 4-for-5 shooting from the free throw line, and blocked three shots in 11.3 minutes per game

Asheville Championship
The Tigers are coming off an impressive showing at the inaugural Asheville Championship, first knocking off the University of South Carolina 66-62 on Friday, November 12, in the semifinal before falling just short against the University of Minnesota, 87-80, in a double overtime thriller in the final. Princeton was the only team to have more than one player named to the All-Tournament Team, as senior Llewellyn and Evbuoman received the honor. Llewellyn averaged 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while Evbuomwan averaged 14.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while also handing out 11 assists.

History With Gill Coliseum And The Beavers
While this will be the first game in history between the Tigers and the Beavers, Princeton is no stranger to Gill Coliseum, having played there as part of the NCAA Tournament West Regional in 1983 after winning the Ivy League Championship. A 52-team tournament in 1983, and following a 56-53 win over 12th-seeded North Carolina A&T in the NCAA preliminary round, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, No. 12 seed Princeton defeated 5th-seeded Oklahoma State, who featured Kansas Head Coach Bill Self, inside Gill Coliseum University 65-53 on Friday, March 18. Craig Robinson '83 led the way for Princeton with a monster double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds, while also adding three blocks. Rich Simkus '83 also finished 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Princeton then came up just short against No. 4 seed Boston College on Sunday, November 14, 51-42. In that game, Gordon Enderle '83 had 17 points, three rebounds, and two steals, while Robinson '83 continued his impressive postseason with 12 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Robinson '83, who is currently National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) President, would later serve as Oregon State's Head Coach from 2008-2014.

Scouting the Beavers
The Beavers, who are 1-3, most recently fell 78-77 to Samford on Thursday, November 18, in Corvallis, Oregon. Warith Alatishe leads Oregon State in scoring with 14.0 points per game and rebounding with 6.5 per game. Dashawn Davis averages a team-high 4-7 assists per game, while Ahmad Rand leads the team in blocks with 1.3 per game. Alatishe, along with Jarod Lucas and Glenn Taylor Jr., lead the Beavers in steals per game with 1.3.

In 2020-21, Oregon State won the Pac-12 Tournament Championship then advanced to the Elite Eight, earning NCAA Tournament wins over Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Loyola Chicago. On the season, the Beavers had a 20-13 record and a 10-10 record in Pac-12 play.
