Men's Basketball Outlasts Oregon State, 81-80

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Led by a game career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds by senior Ethan Wright, the Princeton University men's basketball team earned its second Power Five win in nine days as the Tigers outlasted Oregon State University in the inaugural meeting between the two programs, 81-80, Sunday afternoon inside Gill Coliseum.
Wright's career-best 24 points topped his previous career-high of 21 from Princeton's win over Brown University on Friday, February 15, 2020. It came on 8-for-14 shooting from the field, 6-for-11 shooting from three, and 2-for-2 shooting from the free line, with his six three-pointers also being a a career-high. Wright's 10 rebounds tied for the game-high, making it two-consecutive games with a double-double.
Other double-digit scorers for the Tigers included senior Drew Friberg who finished with 17 points, a career-high four assists, along with four rebounds. Junior Tosan Evbuomwan shot 5-for-7 from the field on route to 14 points, and tied for the game-high in assists with five, while pulling down four rebounds. Senior Jaelin Llewellyn also added 14 points for Princeton.
As a team, the Tigers out-rebounded the Beavers 38-27, and made the most of their opportunities from the free throw line, going 20-for-23. In a contest that saw the score tied on five occasions, Princeton's hustle play helped push it over the line, scoring 11 second chance points to the Beavers' four.
Llewellyn found Friberg for a three-pointer from the left wing with 19:11 on the clock for the opening basket of the game; Friberg would then knock down his second three of the contest at 15:57 to give Princeton an 8-7 advantage.
A 5-0 Beaver run gave OSU a 13-8 lead with 12:25 remaining in the half, but a three-pointer by Wright at 8:52 followed by a transition three by Langborg with 8:19 left in the half saw Princeton re-take the lead, 22-21. A pair of layups by Llewellyn extended the Tigers' advantage to 26-22 with 6:55 on the clock, and while OSU took a 27-27 lead with 6:02 on the clock, Evbuomwan finished through heavy contact for a three-point play at 4:46 to give Princeton a 31-29 advantage.
Evbuomwan couldn't be stopped inside early in the second half, scoring six-straight points to give the Tigers a seven-point advantage at 49-42 with 17:11 left to play. He would then knock down a pair of free throws with 15:23 on the clock to give Princeton a 51-44 lead. Back-to-back three pointers by Wright then saw Princeton take a 59-50 lead with 11:40 remaining.
Princeton will take on Monmouth University (3-1) on Wednesday, November 24, at 7 p.m. in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

The game continued as a back-and-forth battle, as Evbuomwan sank a pair of free throws with 1:10 remaining to give Princeton a 78-73 advantage. Oregon State made it a two-point game, but Wright went 2-for-2 from the stripe with 0:06 on the clock, giving Princeton an 81-77 advantage.
