November 23, 2021 | Women's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – An 11-point fourth quarter from Abby Meyers helped pushed the Princeton Tigers past the Temple Owls, 59-41, at McGonigle Hall on Tuesday night.
Â
In front by seven as the fourth quarter got underway, Princeton used a 20-4 push highlighted by Meyers' microwave scoring output. Princeton led by as many as 24 before closing out with the 18-point decision.
Â
Julia Cunningham paced the offense for the Tigers with 12 points, adding seven rebounds. All of Meyers' points came in the final 10 minutes while securing her first career double-double with 10 caroms. The senior captain also was a +28 when on the court.
Â
Princeton began the contest with the first 15 points, taking a 17-4 lead into the second stanza. The Tigers also scored the first six points of that frame before eventually holding a 27-16 advantage into halftime.
Â
This time it was Temple to go on a run, using a 9-0 sprint to close the gap to two, 27-25, with 5:22 to go in the third quarter. A put back layup from Cunningham and two free throws by Kaitlyn Chen stemmed the rally for the Owls. After two from the charity stripe for Temple, seven consecutive points by Princeton put its lead back to double digits before taking a 38-31 score into the fourth frame.
Â
Head coach Carla Berube's team won the rebounding battle, 49-34, its highest margin of the season. The Tigers' 16 helpers were also a season best.
Â
Princeton will welcome Maine to Jadwin Gym on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
