No. 12 Texas Takes Down Women's Basketball

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 12 Texas Longhorns weathered a second half push by the Princeton Tigers to secure a 70-53 victory over Jadwin Gym on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers went on a 13-7 run to start the second half, cutting their deficit to five, 39-34, with 3:50 remaining. Texas countered with a 11-5 sprint of its own to take a 11-point advantage (50-39) into the final 10 minutes of action.
Princeton remained within striking distance, down 53-44, with 6:37 left in the game, but a 16-5 run by Texas put the game out of reach.
Abby Meyers led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points. Ellie Mitchell posted a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds including an impressive 12 offensive caroms. Mitchell added four steals, two steals and drew five fouls. Joanne Allen-Taylor paced the Longhorns with 18 points in the win.
The No. 12 team in the country started the contest with the first six points and ran out to a 11-6 score halfway through the first quarter before holding a 15-8 lead after one frame. Princeton could not make a dent into the Texas lead in the second stanza, getting within nine on several occasions before a 32-21 halftime deficit.
The No. 12 Texas Longhorns are the highest ranked opponent to ever face Princeton at Jadwin. The Tigers fell to 7-4 this season while the Longhorns are now 9-1. Princeton takes on UCF at home next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
