Second Half Defense Pushes Women's Basketball By Harvard, 68-50

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers easily took care of the Harvard Crimson, 68-50, in the Ivy League opener at Jadwin Gym.

Harvard came into the contest ranked No. 14 in the NCAA in three-point makes at 9.3 per contest.

The Crimson's Lola Mullaney hit the road squad's first trey 43 seconds in. Harvard would not make another one until three minutes left in the game. The road unit finished 3-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Princeton outscored Harvard 10-3 over the final six minutes of the first quarter to take a 12-10 lead. Even at 14-all in the second frame, the Tigers ran off 11 straight points and held a 31-22 advantage at halftime.

The Tigers put the game away in the third stanza, allowing just one basket, jumping out to a 25-point advantage. Princeton outscored Harvard, 23-9, in that stretch, forcing the road squad to go 1-of-15 from the floor.

Abby Meyers collected her second career double-double with 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Kaitlyn Chen and Julia Cunningham added 15 points each in the victory for Princeton.

Head coach Carla Berube's squad has won 14 of the last 15 meetings against Harvard. Before the contest, the team honored the Crimson's head coach Kathy Delaney-Smith who is retiring following this season after 40 years.

The Tigers continue Ivy action with a road trip to Columbia on Friday (Jan. 7) and Cornell (Jan. 8). The game vs. Columbia is a nationally televised contest on ESPNU starting at 7 p.m. Princeton's weekend finishes with a 4 p.m. tip against Cornell.
