Evbuomwan’s Career Night Powers Men’s Basketball Past Drexel in OT

PRINCETON, N.J. – A career-high 27 points and a game-winning shot by junior Tosan Evbuomwan powered the Princeton University men's basketball team past Drexel University, 81-79, in overtime, Saturday afternoon inside Jadwin Gymnasium.
Evbuomwan re-set his career-high for the fourth time this season, leading all scorers with 27 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field, and 5-for-8 from the free throw line. Evbuomwan's 11 made field goals were also a career-best, and he finished with a game-high six assists, while pulling down seven rebounds.
Junior Ryan Langborg added 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field and 5-for-7 shooting from behind the three-point; his five made three-pointers were a career-high. Two other Tigers finished in double figures, as senior Jaelin Llewellyn had 15 points and senior Ethan Wright 10, along with a team-high eight rebounds. Wright also led the game with a career-high four steals.
As a team, Princeton took care of the ball and tied their season-best in turnovers with seven, while Drexel committed 17.
The game started as a back-and-forth battle, with a Wright layup at 16:22 knotting the score at 6-6. The Dragons responded with a 5-0 run, but five-straight Llewellyn points tied it up, 11-11, after a three-pointer with 14:56 left to play.
The Dragons began to create separation and took a 20-15 lead with 11:13 remaining in the half, then used a 5-0 run to take a 27-19 lead at 8:51. A three-pointer by Langborg narrowed the margin to three points at 27-24 with 7:39 left in the half, but a 7-0 Dragon run gave Drexel a 34-24 advantage with 6:09 on the clock.
Princeton tied it at 46-46 with 17:02 on the clock following a layup by Wright and a coast-to-coast layup by Evbuomwan. The Tigers then took their first lead, 54-52, following a long three-pointer by Langborg with 14:23 left to play.
Drexel opened overtime on a 6-0 run, taking a 77-71 advantage with 3:29 left to play. The Tigers would close the game out on an 8-0 run, sparked by a powerful two-handed dunk by Evbuomwan with 2:32 on the clock. Wright knocked down a pair of free throws with 0:53 remaining; on the final possession, Evbuomwan backed down his defender turned over his right shoulder and laid the ball in with his left hand with 0:03 left to play, giving Princeton an 81-79 triumph.
The Tigers return to Jadwin Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 7, at 7 p.m. when they host Bucknell University (2-7).

The game continued as a stalemate; back-to-back Wright baskets gave the Tigers a 62-60 advantage with 8:27 remaining. Drexel responded with a 6-0 run, taking a 68-64 lead with 1:58 on the clock. Llewellyn sank a pair of free throws with 0:36 remaining, then Langborg sank a long catch-and-shoot three-pointer to knot the score at 71-71, with 0:27 left.
