Men's Track & Field Impresses at TCNJ Winter Open

New York, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's track & field team began its 2021-22 campaign with an impressive showing at The College of New Jersey Winter Open inside the Armory in New York.
The Tigers secured seven top-ten school records, including six track events and one field event.
In the 60-meter dash, Daniel Duncan ran the third-best time in school history (6.74), beating Simang'aliso Ndhlovu's mark of 6.75 at Heps in 2019. Duncan's time was also the fourth-fastest time ever by an Ivy League sprinter in the 60, and he was followed by two teammates, with Ndhlovu (6.76) finishing in second and Greg Sholars (6.83) finishing in third.
In the 300 meters, Michael Phillippy ran the second-best time in school history (33.70), beating Tom Hopkins's mark of 33.82 set at the 2011 New Year's Invite. Meanwhile, Ladislav Töpfer, who finished third, ran the fifth best time in school history (34.54), beating Carrington Akosa's mark of 34.70 set at the 2018 Princeton Invite.
In the 600 meters William Doyle ran the fastest time in school history (1:19.44) beating Richard Stewart's mark of 1:20.41 set at the 2005 Princeton Relays. Ethan Reese (1:20.35) and Sam Rodman (1:20.31) ran the second and third fastest times in school history respectively.
The Tigers went one-two in the 60-meter hurdles, with Albert Kreutzer (8.15) finishing in first and Jovan Aigbekaen (8.37) coming in second.
The 4x400 meter relay featured a one-two Tiger finish as well, the team of Taraje Whitfield, Michael Phillippy, Daniel Duncan, and William Doyle reaching the finish line first (3:21.17) followed by the team of Ladislav Töpfer, Ibrahim Ayorinde, Greg Sholars, and Klaudio Gjetja (3:22.66) in second.
Princeton absolutely dominated in the mile, the top six times belonging to Tiger runners. Sam Ellis (4:02.80) was first, followed by Duncan Miller (4:02.82), Daniel O'Brien (4:08.93), Sebastian Fisher (4:13.65), Connor Nisbet 4:18.62, and Jarrett Kirk (4:21.34).
Now onto the field events. In the long jump, Aviram Shwarzbard secured the fifth best distance in school history (7.61m), beating Damon McLean's and Joe Sinsi's mark of 7.55m. Malcolm Bevans earned a third-place finish in the same event, with a distance of 7.08m.
The Tigers went one-two in three other field events: Weight throw, pole vault, and high jump.
William Cauley (17.61m) edged Paul Brennan (17.31m) in the weight throw, Sondre Guttormsen (5.41m) got the better of his brother Simen Guttormsen (5.21m) in the pole vault, and Jeffrey Hollis (2.08m) surpassed Sebastian Clatworthy (2.03m) in the high jump.
And last but certainly not least, Tyler Konopka earned first place in the shot put with a throw of 15.51 meters.
