Princeton Heavies Post Wins Over St. Joe's and Drexel In First Racing Since 2019
April 24, 2021 | Heavyweight Rowing
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Princeton men's heavyweight rowing team took down two Philadelphia schools in St. Joe's and Drexel on the Schuylkill River today.
In the early afternoon, the 3V (6:12.1) opened up the racing with a 2.4-second victory over St. Joe's (6:14.5). The 2V boat (6:09.4) followed with an impressive win by 26 seconds while the V8 (6:01.5) closed up the sweep with a decision that was over 17 seconds.
The three boats followed those victories with three more a few hours later vs. Drexel. The 1V (6:05.1) collected a 22-second triumph. 2V picked up a 13.9 second conquest while 3V dropped the Drexel boats by 1.9 and 21.3 seconds, respectfully.
"After 22 months without a sprint race, seeing our team lineup once again was one of the most inspiring moments I have experienced," stated head coach Greg Hughes. "The team raced well, and it was especially meaningful to see all of our other squads in the boathouse racing out there with us on the same day and on the same river. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to our seniors. Their leadership through these past months showed its strength today. Our team is in a great spot in large part to the way they have stepped up and set the tone for all of us."
Princeton will travel to Overpeck, N.J., to take on Navy, Holy Cross and George Washington next Sunday (May 2).
