May 02, 2021 | Heavyweight Rowing
OVERPECK PARK, N.J. – The Princeton Men's Heavyweight Rowing Team secured wins over the No.7 U.S. Naval Academy and No. 17 Holy Cross at Overpeck Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers opened the day as each of their three boats won their races vs. Holy Cross. The 3V started the action with a 15.4-second decision over the Crusaders followed by 2V taking home a 11.9-second win. 1V earned a 11.7-second victory to secure the sweep.
In the later session, Navy's 3V took down Princeton to start. The Tigers rallied with consecutive wins in the 2V and 1V to collect the coup. In the 2V, the Tigers responded with almost a three-second conquest while the 1V had a 9.79-second triumph.
"This was our team's traditional first cup race in over two years and it was so awesome to see the energy and excitement of our boats out on the course," said head coach Greg Hughes. "The Navy-Princeton Cup was first raced for in 1913 and the only breaks in racing for it came during World War I and World War II. It is great to see us returning some of our sport's most special traditions to our schedule."
