Headed to Calgary: Fillier, Thompson Named to Canada's Olympic Centralization Roster

A pair of Tigers from the Greater Toronto Area will be headed to Western Canada for a while as they get set for the chance at an outstanding sporting honor.
Sarah Fillier and Claire Thompson '20 have been named to Canada's 28-player centralization roster for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Hockey Canada expects to select its 23-player Olympic roster in late December ahead of the Games, which are scheduled for February 2022.
Fillier and Thompson will head to Calgary at the end of July and prepare for the 2021 IIHF World Championship, which has been moved to late August at a location to be determined. The pool of players is also aiming to compete against Team USA, junior teams in Alberta, and a possible series against Finland over their time in Calgary as they sharpen up for 2022.
Fillier is one of just four current collegians among the pool of 28 and is the second-youngest player in the group, and Thompson is the seventh-youngest of the 28.
Though both Tigers have been a part of Canadian camps and competitions before, an Olympic selection would be the first for both, and it would make them the first Princetonians to compete for Canada in women's ice hockey at the Olympic Games. Andrea Kilbourne '02 competed for the U.S. in 2002, Nikola Holmes '03 competed for Germany in 2006, and Caroline Park '11 competed for Korea in 2018.
Thompson stands fifth among defensemen on Princeton's all-time scoring list with 87 career points on 31 goals and 56 assists, and Fillier finished her sophomore season in 2020 with 22 goals and 35 assists for the second straight year, giving her 70 assists and 114 points to stand already more than halfway to Princeton's career records for assists (122) and points (218).
Fillier earned AHCA All-America honors in each of her first two seasons as well as All-ECAC and All-Ivy, and Thompson was an All-ECAC honoree twice during her career, All-Ivy three times and an Academic All-Ivy selection.
