Princeton Rowing Has Four Named To U.S. Squad For World Rowing U-23 Championships
June 23, 2021 | Heavyweight Rowing, Men's Rowing - Lightweight
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers will have four representatives for the United States at the 2021 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, U.S. Rowing announced today.
Keelan Good (Heavyweights) and Nate Phelps (Heavyweights) will be on the men's quad scull while Erik Spinka (Heavyweights) will be in the 4+. Sydney Edwards (Lightweights) will be the coxswain on the men's eight. The US Crews are entirely self-funded and supporters can donate to the Men's 4+ here and the 4x here. The full list of boats can be found here.
"I think Princeton prepared me excellently for U-23 camp," said Spinka. "The training we did during the spring, especially working in small boats at the beginning, for over a month, helped sharpen my boat feel and put me in a really good position going into camp to make boats move and earn a seat in the 4+. I'm most excited for my first race in the U-23 category. I'm ready for the step up from U-19 to more competitive, and more fun racing and can't wait to see what my boat can put together in the Czech Republic on race day."
"Princeton prepared me for camp and worlds with the competitive atmosphere and constant drive to win that can be seen throughout the boathouse," said Edwards. "Everyday you walk through the doors of Shea you are reminded how much hard work it takes to be the best and that constant drive really pushed me through the selection process. I'm crazy excited to be able to finish out my rowing career by representing the United States. This past year was by no means "easy" and it was definitely a tough season to end my 13 years of rowing so I am incredibly excited to give it one more shot down the 2K stretch and hopefully bring home some hardware before I hang up my microphone."
"We couldn't be more excited to for all our Princeton Athletes that have been selected to compete at the U-23 World Championships," said the Princeton rowing coaches. "The fact that all four Princeton rowing teams will represent Team USA on the international stage is a testament to the training, facilities, and support provided by Princeton University, Princeton Athletics, and our alumni to put our athletes in the position to compete for World Championship titles. We can't wait to see what they do come race day."
The 2021 World Rowing U-23 Championships (July 7-11) is the premier event for rowers under the age of 23 and offers a total of 22 events. The other 15 U.S. boats were selected last week at the 2021 USRowing Under 23 National Team Trials.
