Tokyo Olympics: Stone '07 and Wagner Finish Fifth In 2X Final

TOKYO - The United States' double scull duo of Gevvie Stone '07 and Kristi Wagner finished in fifth place in the A Final on Tuesday evening.

Romania was never challenged as it took the gold with an Olympic record 6:41.03. New Zealand (6:44.82) and the Netherlands (6:45.73) secured the silver and bronze. Lithuania was fourth followed by the United States and Canada.

Hannah Scott '21 and the Great Britain quadruple sculls team dominated the B Final, winning by 3.86 seconds. Great Britain jumped out in the lead early and expanded it to 2.51 seconds at 1000m. The group was not threatened the rest of the way as it collected the win and seventh overall.

Claire Collins '19 and the United States four had their best time of the Olympics, posting a 6:33.65 to take home the B Final. That time was almost 20 seconds better than their repechage mark and 10 seconds faster than their heat run.

Romania paced the field early, just .11 seconds in front of the United States. Collins and the U.S. four took the lead not long after and led by five-tenths of a second at the halfway mark. They extended that advantage by over a second and held off the rest of the field to earn the win.
