Peter Farrell Inducted Into USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame Class of 2021

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Coaches of Hall of Fame Class of 2021 Tuesday and former Princeton University Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach Peter Farrell was one of the inductees.
Farrell was named as one of seven who will be enshrined in the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame, for both their accomplishments as a coach and the impact their contributions continue to have on the sport.
The seven coaches will be honored at the 2021 USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, December 15, at the USTFCCCA Convention in Orlando, Florida. This is the largest group to be inducted in the past 13 years, as the Class of 2008 also consisted of seven members.
Started in 1995, the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame exists to recognize coaches who have brought great distinction to themselves, to their institutions and to the sports of cross country and track & field. Each of the honorees exemplifies the qualities of dedication to the sport, leadership and passion for their profession and serves as an inspiration to coaches everywhere.
After taking over the women's club running program at Princeton in 1977, Farrell served as head coach for 39 years, guided the Tigers to 27 Ivy League team titles, coached 55 All-Americans, and 182 Ivy League Champions. He led the program to the Ivy League Triple Crown in 1980-81 and 2010-11. In 2009, the Tigers' cross country team became the first and only Ivy League team to sweep the conference championships.
Under his guidance the Tigers were a national force, as Julia Ratcliffe '17 won the NCAA National Championship in 2014. The Tigers also won four Mid-Atlantic Region cross country titles and earned two top-five finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Farrell was also honored as the USTFCCCA MidAtlantic Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2011.
A 1968 graduate from the University of Notre Dame, Farrell was a two-time All-American in the 800 meters.
Farrell becomes the fourth Princeton coach to earn induction into the USTFCCCA Coaches Hall of Fame. Larry Ellis (2009), Keene Fitzpatrick (2011) and Fred Samara (2017) were also inducted.
