PRINCETON – A 12-0 run to end the contest gave the Villanova Wildcats a 69-59 victory over the No. 24 Princeton Tigers at Jadwin Gym on Friday night.

Julia Cunningham had a team-high 18 points, registering 13 in the second half. Ellie Mitchell dropped in 13 rebounds along with five assists. Grace Stone contributed 17 points including a career-high four treys. Paige Morton added 10 points in the loss.

A trey from Cunningham with 4:01 left in the game gave Princeton a 59-57 lead. After a free throw, back-to-back baskets from Lucy Olsen and Maddy Siegrist put Villanova ahead, 62-59, with 90 seconds to go. Consecutive missed three-pointers by the Tigers put the game away as Villanova did not miss from the charity stripe.

Princeton started the contest on fire with six three-pointers in the first quarter highlighted by Stone's four treys. She scored 15 in the first 10 minutes as the Tigers led 21-20. The second frame was paced by Villanova as it went 8-of-11 from the floor, turning the game around to jump in front, 41-30, at the break. The Wildcats end the second stanza on a 18-7 push.

Trailing by 13 with 6:42 to go in the third quarter, Princeton made some headway led by five consecutive points from Cunningham which cut the deficit in half, 49-43. The Tigers eventually closed the gap to four, 53-49, as the final frame got started.

The fourth stanza was a thriller with six different lead changes with neither team leading by more than two points before Villanova's run to finish.

Siegrist, the 2022 Big East Player of the Year, led all scorers with 32 points in the win for Villanova.

Princeton travels to Seton Hall Monday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
