Wrestlers to Battle Wisconsin, Michigan State at Garden State Grapple

The 2022 portion of the Princeton wrestling team's dual-meet schedule is all Big Ten, and that run continues Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark when the Tigers take on Wisconsin and Michigan State as part of the Garden State Grapple, which will bring four EIWA teams and four Big Ten teams together for the event.
Binghamton, Drexel and Penn will also wrestle at the event from the EIWA, and Indiana and Rutgers will be there from the Big Ten. Princeton wrestled Indiana two Fridays ago in Bloomington, and the Tigers will host Rutgers next Sunday in Jadwin. Tickets for Princeton's home dual opener are here.

On Wisconsin: The Badgers are ranked No. 11 by the NWCA in dual-meet rankings and are as high as No. 9 in other services, where FloWrestling has Wisconsin ranked. Wisconsin has competed in four dual matches so far and will be facing its second and third straight EIWA/Ivy League opponents in Princeton and Penn Sunday after a 19-13 win over Cornell in Ithaca on Nov. 19. Princeton and Wisconsin have wrestled three times in a dual match with Wisconsin winning all three by smaller margins each time, 32-9 in Princeton in 2003, 29-9 at Rider in 2011, and 22-18 at Wisconsin in 2018.
On Michigan State: MSU won three duals over two weekends earlier this month, defeating Davidson, Presbyterian and American by margins ranging from 33 to 52. The Spartans are ranked No. 21 in dual matches by FloWrestling and WrestleStat. Princeton and Michigan State have met just once in a dual, a 25-15 Tiger win at Nebraska in 2016.

Princeton probable: Patrick Glory
Glory, a senior, opened the season with a 5-0 run through the Princeton Open and is ranked No. 2 in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN), FloWrestling, InterMat, WrestleStat and Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN). While Glory was an NCAA finalist last year, Wisconsin's Eric Barnett, ranked as high as No. 6 by FloWrestling, held the sixth seed at the NCAAs last year before Oregon State's Brandon Kaylor defeated Barnett 9-3 in the round of 32. That derailed what would have been a Glory-Barnett meeting in the quarterfinals, as Glory defeated Kaylor 7-3 to move on. Michigan State's Tristan Lujan is ranked as high as No. 17 by AWN. Barnett went on to place seventh.

Pierson, a junior, went 1-2 at the Princeton Open and was Princeton's wrestler at 133 in the dual opener at Indiana, with the Hoosiers' Henry Porter winning 12-4. Both opponents this weekend have wrestlers at 133 ranked across the outlets, with Wisconsin's Taylor LaMont as high as No. 15 by AWN and Michigan State's Rayvon Foley at No. 8 with AWN, FloWrestling and InterMat. LaMont was seeded 21st at the NCAAs last year and went 2-2 while Foley held the eighth seed but went 1-2.

Camillaci, a freshman, went 4-2 at the Princeton Open before a 4-1 loss to Graham Rooks in the Indiana dual. Wisconsin's Austin Gomez is ranked No. 1 in the nation by AWN and WrestleStat and held the third seed at the 2022 NCAAs, losing in the quarterfinals to 11th-seeded Bryce Andonian of Virginia Tech. Gomez went on to place fourth. Michigan State does not have a ranked wrestler at 149.

Monday, a senior, is ranked No. 1 in the nation by AWN, FloWrestling, InterMat and Win. An NCAA finalist last year, Monday had an 8-4 win over Indiana's Derek Gilcher in the opening dual. Both opponents have top-20 wrestlers at the weight, with Wisconsin's Garrett Model ranked as high as No. 13 by WIN and Michigan State's Chase Saldate ranked as high as No. 15 by InterMat and WIN. Model was seeded 27th at the NCAAs last year and Saldate was seeded 21st, both going 0-2.

Bergey, a sophomore, has a 4-2 record and picked up a 3-2 decision over Tyler Lillard in the Indiana dual. Wisconsin's Dean Hamiti held the fourth seed at the NCAAs last year as a freshman and made the quarters, going on to place sixth. Hamiti is ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation by WrestleStat. Michigan State's Caleb Fish holds a No. 25 ranking from WrestleStat and was an NCAA qualifier last year, seeded 31st and going 0-2.

Rookie Mulhauser won his weight class at the Princeton Open and battled Indiana's No. 17 Donnell Washington to a 5-3 decision loss in the dual match. The lone ranking at the weight for the three schools belongs to Wisconsin's James Rowley, who earned honorable mention with FloWrestling.
