No. 24 Women's Basketball Gets Stops In 67-49 Win Over Temple

PRINCETON – The No. 24 Princeton Women's Basketball Team allowed just 18 baskets in a 67-49 victory over the Temple Owls at Jadwin Gym.

Head coach Carla Berube's unit held Temple to 1-of-20 from three and 29 percent shooting overall.

The Tigers ran off 13 straight points in the first quarter and eventually held a 20-9 lead after 10 minutes. Temple made a push, using an 8-1 spurt over the final two minutes of the second quarter to cut the deficit to three, 28-25, at the break.

Princeton kept Temple at bay in the third frame as Paige Morton and Kaitlyn Chen scored all the home squad's points in that stretch, setting the contest at 44-35.

The Tigers quickly scored the first four points of the fourth stanza and kept the Owls from closing the gap within single digits the rest of the way.

Chen led the way with 14 points while setting a career high with nine rebounds. She was also a game-high +27. Julia Cunningham added 13 points and nine caroms while Ellie Mitchell posted her ninth career double-double (12 points, 15 rebounds). Morton also a new personal mark with 13 points on 4-of-6 from the floor.

The Tigers outrebounded the Owls, 51-28. Chet Nweke grabbed a team-high four offensive rebounds, securing five overall, adding nine points.

Princeton has won nine straight home games dating back to last year. The Tigers welcome 2022 NCAA second round participant Villanova on Friday (7 p.m.).
