PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball team will play its first road contest on Friday, November 11, at Navy inside Alumni Hall as part of the Veteran's Classic, then follow with a matchup at UMBC on Monday, November 14, at 6:00 p.m. inside Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Season Opener
Princeton opened the season on Monday, November 7, inside Jadwin Gymnasium, dropping a close contest to Hofstra, 83-77. The Tigers led by as many as 12 points, but could not withstand a late rally by the Pride.

The Tigers were led by senior Tosan Evbuomwan, who had a team-high 22 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field and seven rebounds. Senior Keeshawn Kellman went a perfect 9-for-9 from the field for a career-high 21 points. Freshman Caden Pierce led the team in rebounding with 10, while junior Matt Allocco's four assists were a team-high.

A Historic Night From The Field
Kellman's 9-for-9 shooting performance against Hofstra ranks second all-time in school history for most made field goals without a miss. The school record belongs to Barnes Hauptfuhrer '76, who went 11-for-11 against Notre Dame in 1974.

Additionally, no player in the nation made more field goals without a miss against a Division I opponent than Kellman on opening night.

An Impactful Debut
Getting the start in his first game at the college level, Pierce made the most of the opportunity. Along with his team-high 10 rebounds, he also scored seven points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field, handed out two assists and had one block along with one steal.

All-Time Series
The Tigers hold a 24-10 lead in the all-time series with the Midshipmen, with the first meeting between the two programs taking place in 1908 and the most recent on December 1, 1977. Under the guidance of Pete Carril, the Tigers overcame Navy inside Jadwin Gymnasium, 52-36.

Princeton leads the all-time series, 3-0, against UMBC with the most recent contest an 89-77 Tiger victory on Monday, December 13, inside Jadwin Gymnasium. Senior Jaelin Llewellyn led all scorers with 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting from the field, while senior Ethan Wright recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting, along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Evbuomwan added 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting, a game-high seven assists, and five rebounds. In 13 minutes, Barnes went 4-for-4 from the field for nine points, two rebounds and one block

As a team, the Tigers shot 35-for-68 from the field, good for 51.5%. Princeton also took care of the ball, recording a season-low six turnovers to UMBC's 13.

Scouting Navy
The Midshipmen opened their season with a 74-59 victory over William & Mary on Monday, November 7, in Williamsburg, Virginia. In the 2022-23 Patriot League Preseason Poll, Navy earned 121 points and finished fourth.

Navy is coming off a strong 2021-22 season, where it had a 21-11 overall record along with a 12-6 record in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen advanced to the final of the Patriot League Tournament, where it fell to Colgate.

Scouting UMBC
The Retrievers opened their season at Tulane on Monday, November 7, falling 89-67. Prior to taking on the Tigers, UMBC will host Penn State York on Thursday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. In the 2022023 America East Preseason Poll, the Retrievers were picked fifth and earned 40 points.

In 2021-22, UMBC finished with an 18-14 overall record and an 11-7 record in America East play. The Retrievers made it to the Championship Game of the America East Tournament, where they came up short against Vermont.
