
Connors Nets Career 65th Goal, But Union's Matsoukas Stops 56 to Top Tigers

On an afternoon when the No. 15/14-ranked Princeton women's hockey team nearly quadrupled Union on shots overall and on goal, Dutchwomen netminder Sophie Matsoukas stopped 56 shots to help lead Union to a 4-1 win over the Tigers Saturday in Schenectady, N.Y.
Union's Riley Walsh had a goal with 32 seconds left in the first period to open the scoring and Emily King had another less than seven. minutes into the second to push the Union lead to 2-0, but Maggie Connors got Princeton within one when she weaved her way in from the boards along the goal line to thread one past Matsoukas and cut the Union advantage to 2-1.
With 65 career goals, Connors holds the lead among active Tigers and stands 14th all-time in program history, four goals out of what would be a three-way tie for 12th.
The Tigers, though, got no closer. Ashley Adams scored with less than six minutes to go in the third and a Maren Friday empty-netter as Princeton looked to turn a power play into a 6-on-4 made it 4-1 with 3:11 to go.
Princeton's advantage in total shots finished at 89-25 and in shots on goal at 57-15.
Princeton split its final ECAC Hockey weekend of 2022 and will head to Mercyhurst for a pair next weekend before the break for first-semester final exams and the holidays.
