
Men’s Basketball Overcomes Halftime Deficit to Down Harvard, 69-66

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's basketball team started Ivy League play on a high note Saturday inside Jadwin Gymnasium, battling back from a halftime deficit to defeat Harvard 69-66.
Three finished in double digits for the Tigers, with sophomore Blake Peters leading the Tigers in scoring with 13 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 shooting from three. Senior Ryan Langborg added 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 shooting from three, along with a team and career-high 11 rebounds for the double-double. Senior Keeshawn Kellman finished with 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting, and Princeton was led in assists by senior Tosan Evbuomwan with six.
The Crimson opened the game with a 5-0 run, but the Tigers responded with a 5-0 run of their own following a Kellman jump hook with 18:11 on the clock followed a by a deep Langborg three-pointer from the top of the circle with 17:19 left in the half. Soon after, Princeton took its first lead of the contest, 7-6, at 16:07 after a Langborg layup.
With 15:23 remaining in the half, Harvard went on an 8-0 run and surged ahead, 13-9, with 13:30 on the clock. From there, the half would descend into a back-and-forth battle; a layup by Kellman tied the score 16-16, with 11:02 remaining in the half.
A three-pointer by junior Matt Allocco at 5:46 sparked a 7-0 run, that gave the Tigers a 26-22 advantage following a powerful two-handed dunk by Evbuomwan with 4:31 on the clock. The two teams would trade baskets for the remainder of the half, with the Crimson taking a 31-30 lead into halftime.
The second half began with a 5-0 Princeton run, as the Tigers took a 35-31 advantage after a three-pointer by junior Zach Martini with 17:18 remaining. Harvard responded with a 7-0 run, and took a 38-35 lead with 15:24 on the clock.
A three-pointer by Allocco at 12:36 put Princeton ahead 44-42, but Harvard battled back to take a 46-44 advantage with 11:37 remaining. The Tigers responded with a 10-0 run, ignited by a freshman Caden Pierce three-pointer with 11:07 on the clock, and took a 54-46 lead with 9:01 left to play after another three-pointer by Pierce.
With help from a 7-0 run, Harvard made it a 62-57 contest with 4:08 on the clock, but layups by Evbuomwan and Peters gave Princeton a 66-57 lead with 3:20 left to play. A 7-0 Crimson run made it a two-point contest, 66-64, with 0:25 remaining,
With 0:03 on the clock and Princeton up 69-66, Harvard inbounded the ball the length of the court but Pierce intercepted the ball mid-air for the steal and secured possession for the Tigers. Princeton would hold on for the victory with a 69-66 final score.
