
Men's Basketball Moves to 2-0 in Ivy Play, Downs Columbia 68-49

NEW YORK – The Princeton University men's basketball team moved to 2-0 in Ivy League play Friday night inside Levien Gymnasium, upending Columbia 68-49.
The victory was Franklin C. Cappon-Edward C. Green '40 Head Coach Mitch Henderson's 99th Ivy League win, making him one victory away from becoming the eighth men's basketball coach to reach 100 Ivy League wins.
Princeton dominated the rebounding battle, 54-36, with the Tigers' 39 defensive rebounds a season-high, and Princeton's 54 rebounds tying it's season-high.
Junior Matt Allocco led the game in scoring with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field, and 3-for-6 shooting from three, while also pulling down five rebounds. Senior Tosan Evbuomwan added 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field, grabbed six rebounds and tied game-high in assists with two, along with junior Zach Martini and freshman Xaivian Lee. The contest was led in rebounding by senior Keeshawn Kellman, who had nine to go along with nine points.
It was the Lions who jumped out to a 6-3 lead with 17:21 on the clock, but a layup by Evbuomwan with 15:43 left in the half ignited an 8-0 run, giving Princeton an 11-6 advantage at 14:59 following another Evbuomwan layup.
Martini went 3-for-3 from the free throw line with 14:24 remaining in the half, and gave extended Princeton's lead to 14-8. While Columbia kept it close, the Tigers remained in control and took a 22-17 lead after a three-pointer by Allocco with 9:19 on the clock.
Shortly after, at 8:13, Columbia made it a two-point contest at 23-23, but an Allocco layup with 7:14 remaining in the half sparked an 11-0 run, and put Princeton ahead 34-21 with 2:50 on the clock after a put-back by Lee. The Tigers would then take a 36-24 advantage into the half.
Six early second half points from Evbuomwan saw the Tigers extend their lead to 42-28 with with 16:58 remaining. With 14:23 on the clock, a layup by Allocco led a 6-0, pushing the Tigers' lead to 48-30 with 12:50 left to play.
Princeton would extend its lead to 24 points, 56-32, after a freshman Caden Pierce dunk at 9:47 and the Tigers remained in control from there. A jumper by freshman Jack Scott with 1:50 on the clock gave Princeton a 68-44 lead, and the Tigers went on to prevail 68-49.
