Men's Tennis Downs Wisconsin 4-3, in Home Opener
February 11, 2022 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's tennis team earned a second-straight win over a Big Ten opponent, taking down the University of Wisconsin, 4-3, Friday night inside Jadwin Gymnasium in the Tigers' home opener.
"Wisconsin pushed us tonight," said head coach Billy Pate. "They played inspired, came ready to play and went after it. I felt we did a good job of controlling the momentum early and it seemed like we were up 2-0 in the match for quite a while. We weren't able to step on the gas - though Justin did a wonderful job of finishing strong and clinching the win with a great third set. I felt like it shouldn't have come down to that, but credit to Wisconsin for not going away. We'll take some good ideas from this win and look to build on what we can do better on Sunday against Penn State."
Princeton took an early by advantage by winning the doubles point; the team of Ryan Seggerman and Justin Barki took down No. 55 Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile, 6-4, at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez earned a 6-0 victory over Lenard Soha and Tim Dzhurnskiy.
In singles, Rodriguez downed Parts at No. 3, 7-6, 7-6 while at No. 4, No. 113 Barki overcame Sebastian Vile 6-7, 7-5, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, Will Peters dispatched Daniel Nuzhny, 6-0, 6-2.
