Men’s Tennis Takes Down Cornell at ECAC Championships, 4-2
February 20, 2022 | Men's Tennis
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's tennis team ended the ECAC Championships with a 4-2 win over host Cornell University, Sunday at the Reis Tennis Center.
"Gutsy win for our boys on the road," said head coach Billy Pate. "We know it would be a battle and I'm proud how we bounced back after a disappointing loss yesterday. Cornell is very strong and plays well on their home courts. I couldn't be more proud of Ryan for locking it down against one of the best players in the country. Once he broke the first game of the third set he went the distance holding in a clutch performance. We are continuing to learn and grow each match and we'll build on this as we prepare for the Blue Gray next weekend."
The Tigers won the doubles point, thanks to a 6-2 victory by Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez over Jack McCarthy and Pietro Rimondini at the No. 2 spot, along with a 6-3 triumph at No. 3 by Thomas Bosancic and Filippos Astreinidis over Adit Sinha.
In singles, Ryan Seggerman prevailed 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 over No. 27 Ayeni at No. 1, and Will Peters earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over McCarthy at No. 5. At No. 6, Astreinidis took down Samuel Paquette, 6-4, 6-2.
