Newell '16 Makes Olympic Debut in China's Win
February 04, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
In what was China's second game of the women's hockey tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games, Kim Newell '16 made her Olympic debut on Friday night (ET) as China defeated Denmark 3-1.
The win was China's first at the Games since 1998, which was the first women's hockey Olympic tournament.
Denmark got on the board with a goal just more than eight minutes in from Malene Frandsen, but Newell kept Denmark out of the net the rest of the way, making 22 saves on the night.
China tied it up on a Qiqi Lin goal with less than four minutes to go in the second period, and with just 50 seconds left in the third, Ni Lin had the go-ahead goal. Qiqi Lin added an empty-netter with 32 seconds left.
