Men's Basketball Headed to Championship Sunday at #IvyMadness

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Clutch baskets in Lavietes Pavilion are becoming a habit for junior Tosan Evbuomwan, as his layup with 0:36 remaining pushed the No. 1 seed Princeton University men's basketball team ahead of No. 4 seed Cornell University, and helped the Tigers earn a 77-73 win along with a spot in the final at the Ivy League Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Senior Jaelin Llewellyn led the way with a game-high 23 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field, and 4-for-6 shooting from three, while also adding four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the Tigers' eighth-straight win. Junior Tosan Evbuomwan added 21 points on 10-for-18 shooting, along with a game-high six assists, which moved him to No. 5 on the Tigers' all-time list for assists in a season, with 130. Evbuomwan also tied for the team-high in rebounds with six. Senior Ethan Wright finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while senior Drew Friberg and junior Ryan Langborg each added eight points.
As a team, the Tigers shot 32-for-66 (48.5%) from the field, along with 8-for-20 (40.0%) from three.
The Tigers set the tone early, opening with an 8-0 run sparked by a Langborg three-pointer with 19:43 on the clock. With 18:53 left in the half, Llewellyn made a three-pointer from the left corner, plus the foul, to give Princeton its 8-0 advantage. His three-pointer set a new school record for made threes in a season, exceeding the previous record of 298 from the 2016-17 season.
Back-to-back threes by Wright and Friberg extended Princeton's advantage to 12, 14-2, with 17:14 remaining in the half, before a 9-0 run, led off by a layup by sophomore Matt Allocco at 11:15, saw the Tigers surge ahead, 32-16, following a three-point play by Evbuomwan with 8:57 on the clock.
The Big Red would go on a 9-0 run, trimming the lead to six points, 37-31, with 3:10 on the clock. A Llewellyn jumper with 2:31 on the clock kept the Tigers in front, 39-31, and Princeton would take a 40-35 lead into the half.
Cornell opened the second half with a 7-0 run, jumping ahead 42-40, with 18:27 remaining. A three-pointer by Allocco with 16:41 on the clock sparked a 7-0 run for Princeton, and saw re-take the lead, with 50-45, with 14:47 left to play.
A Big Red three-pointer knotted the score at 55-55 with 10:45 left to play, but a Friberg three-pointer at 9:25 saw the Tiges gain the advantage once again. The half continued as a back-and-forth battle; an Evbuomwan layup with 3:20 remaining, followed by a Llewellyn three-pointer from the left wing saw Princeton take a 71-69 lead with 1:51 on the clock.
With the score knotted 73-73, Evbuomwan took the ball at the top of the key, crossed over from left to right, then drove hard to the basket and laid the ball in with 00:36 on the clock, giving the Tigers a 75-73 advantage. Langborg drained a pair of free throws with 00:06 left, and Princeton held on for the 77-73 triumph, earning a spot in the Ivy League Tournament Championship gane.
