Softball Team Adds Win Over Sacred Heart, Will Pick Up Manhattan Game Sunday
March 12, 2022 | Softball
The sun went down on the Princeton softball team on Saturday in Santa Barbara, but not on the team's perfect record in the weekend event.
The Tigers were due to play two games Saturday and ended up playing about a game and a half, defeating Sacred Heart 8-2 before the game against Manhattan was halted due to darkness after three innings with the score tied 0-0.
Princeton and Manhattan will resume the game on Sunday at a time to be determined (live scoring). Princeton has a scheduled game against South Dakota State at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT (live scoring).Â
Against Sacred Heart, Princeton scored a pair of first-inning runs, with a Serena Starks walk preceding back-to-back doubles for Ashley McDonald and Allison Ha to score the runs. It stayed 2-0 into the sixth inning as Alexis Laudenslager going 4 1/3 innings and allowing just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Meghan Harrington closed out the win, throwing the last 2 2/3 innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks, striking out four.
Princeton pushed the lead to 5-0 in the sixth. McDonald doubled home a Starks base hit, and Adrienne Chang picked up McDonald with a double before Sophia Marsalo had an RBI single to bring home Allison Ha, who had a base hit in between the McDonald and Chang doubles.
Two hits, two walks and an error led to the two Sacred Heart runs in the sixth, with Emily Carroll getting an RBI single.Â
Princeton got the two runs back in the seventh and added another. Starks doubled to bring home a walk to Hoffman and a Madison Hamilton hit-by-pitch, and McDonald had her third RBI of the game with a base hit to score Starks.
Starks, McDonald, Ha and Marsalo each had three hits on the game.Â
Against Manhattan, Ali Blanchard hadn't allowed a hit or a walk through three innings, striking out four before the game was suspended. Chang and Hoffman had the Tigers' two hits.Â
