Toth, Ruggiero Earn All-America Honors, Trio Named Scholar-Athletes
March 15, 2022 | Women's Squash
Andrea Toth and Elle Ruggiero have earned College Squash Association All-America recognition, and Ruggiero, Emme Leonard and Emily Rose have been named CSA Scholar-Athletes, the CSA has announced.
Toth, a junior, was one of 10 players named first-team All-America, and senior Ruggiero was one of 10 named second-team All-America. It was Toth's first All-America honor and Ruggiero's second, along with a second-team recognition in 2020.
Toth moved into the No. 1 spot for Princeton at the start of the Ivy League season and remained there through the CSA team tournament, where Princeton finished fifth. Ruggiero was in the second spot from the start of the Ivy season forward, and both players were in the top draw - the Ramsay Draw, named for Princeton coach Gail Ramsay - at the CSA individual tournament. Toth made the consolation final after defeating Ruggiero in the consolation semifinal.
It's the second Scholar-Athlete honor for each of Ruggiero, Leonard and Rose, with Leonard getting the honor in 2019-20 and Rose and Ruggiero doing so in 2020-21. Only juniors and seniors are eligible for the award.
Leonard, an anthropology major, played on court five for almost all her matches, going 10-5. Rose, a history major, went 4-0, playing between courts six, eight and nine. Ruggiero is a student in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.
