PRINCETON, N.J. – On the heels of excellent performances at both the Ivy League and National level, the Princeton University men's track and field team earned three USTFCCCA 2022 NCAA DI ITF regional awards, as part of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Sondre Guttormsen was named men's field athlete of the year, claiming both the national title and Ivy League title in the pole vault. Earlier in the year, Guttormsen set a new Ivy League record (and school record) in the pole vault, clearing 5.82 meters. He is also the Norwegian record holder in the pole vault.
Already named coach of the year in the Ivy League, Princeton's Fred Samara was also selected as men's coach of the year in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Samara coached the Tigers to a top-5 finish at the NCAAs, with eight athletes earning All-American honors. Samara also led the Tigers to their seventh straight Ivy League Indoor Championships, where the orange and black claimed ten conference titles and had nine more athletes finish in the top-three.
Robert Abdullah was named men's assistant coach of the year, coaching four Ivy League champions in Christian Brown (60-meter hurdles), Ibrahim Ayorinde (200 meters), Michael Phillippy (400 meters) and Aviram Shwarzbard (Long jump), as well as three Ivy League runners-up, including Simang'aliso Ndhlovu (60 meters), Daniel Duncan (200 meters) and Andersen Dimon (500 meters).
