Men’s Track and Field Sets Two School Records, Ties Another at the Penn Challenge

PHILADELPHIA – It was business as usual for the Princeton University men's track and field team, Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field. The Tigers set school records in the discus and the 4x100 meter relay, tying another in the 100 meters. The orange and black also delivered three top-10 school performances.
Robbie Otal set a new school record in the discus, with a throw of 61.24 meters. That mark surpasses August Wolf's ('83) mark of 59.92 meters set at the 1982 NCAA championships. Also competing in the event was C.J. Licata, who's toss of 55.78 meters places him fifth all-time in school history.
Other competitors in the discus include: Avery Shunneson (51.90 m) in fourth, Paul Brennan (45.95 m) in eighth, Tyler Konopka ninth (45.74 m) and Andrei Iosivas (39.03 m) in 12th.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the team of Simang'aliso Ndhlovu, Ibrahim Ayorinde, Daniel Duncan and Greg Sholars set a new program record of 39.82, eclipsing the previous mark of 39.90 set by the quartet of Volker, Daniels, Carbone and Akosa.
Ibrahim Ayorinde went a blazing 10.36 in the 100 meters, tying the school record with Steve Morgan '87. Two more Tigers delivered top-10 performances, with Greg Sholars' time of 10.50 placing him fifth all-time in school history, while Kaden Reynolds' mark of 10.51 moves him into a tie for sixth all-time with Nse Akang '86.
Simang'aliso Ndhlovu (10.51) and Austin Carbone (11.39) also competed in the 100 meters, taking third and ninth respectively.
In the 200 meters, Ladislav Töpfer (21.74) finished in second and Klaudio Gjetja (22.29) took fifth.
Four Tigers placed in the top-10 in the 110-meter hurdles, including Christian Brown (14.43) in first, Taraje Whitfield (14.66) in third, Jovan Aigbekaen (14.75) in fourth and Albert Kreutzer (15.11) in sixth.
Three more Tigers placed in the top-5 in the 400-meter hurdles: Taraje Whitfield (54.79), William Doyle (55.55) and Chris Paige (56.34) went 2-3-4 respectively.
In the 800 meters, the Tigers went 1-2-3-4. Kieran McDermott (1:53.68) took the top spot, followed by Joe Fast (1:53.81), Sebastian Fisher (1:54.38) and Connor Chen (1:54.77). Meanwhile, Jack Kenkel (1:57.26) took eighth and Josiah Taylor (1:58.65) placed tenth.
Moving to the field events, Malcolm Bevans secured first place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.63 meters, while John Hogan (1.97 m) and Ilay Furman (4.70 m) earned third place in the high jump and long jump respectively. In the pole vault, Will Drury placed second with a distance of 4.90 meters.
In the throws, Chandler Ault finished second in the javelin with a throw of 67.96 meters while Zach Jaramillo (55.57 m) took 12th. In the shot put, Tyler Konopka earned sixth place with a throw of 16.08 meters.

The Tigers will travel to two separate competitions, including the Texas relays from March 24th – March 26th, and the Raleigh relays from March 25th – March 26th.
