The Tigers will continue to test themselves against ranked opponents as they jockey for position with an eye towards the postseason. Last week, the Tigers opened with a 1.3-second loss at No. 1 Navy before edging No. 7 Georgetown by 0.4 seconds in the day's second race.
"In our sport, there are so many good crews and we push each other to the limit each week," said head coach Martin Crotty. "Each opportunity we have to test ourselves against the opponents we expect to see at IRAs is important. We had two such chances last weekend, and there are two more ahead for us on Saturday. The race with Columbia is always a big one, we take great pride in rowing for the Campbell Cup and we appreciate every race we have against our traditional Ivy rivals. In the afternoon, we'll see a pair of very capable boats and it will be vital that our guys continue to build the stamina required to turn around in short order and take care of business. We look forward to a great day at Overpeck."
The Campbell Cup is named after William V. Campbell, Columbia class of 1967. A former football captain and coach at Columbia, Campbell was a passionate supporter of Ivy League athletics and his number 67 is retired perpetually throughout Columbia Athletics.
The most recent edition of the Campbell Cup saw Princeton down the defending IRA champions by 2.7 seconds on Lake Carnegie on March 30, 2019. Princeton is 2-1 in Campbell Cup races since the Cup was put in play in 2017.
