UC San Diego Takes Pair from Softball Team as Spring Trip Opens

Princeton and UC San Diego met on the softball field for the first time, and the host Tritons swept the doubleheader as the Tigers began their spring trip to Southern California on Tuesday.

In game one, UCSD scored three runs in the first inning, using three hits and two walks. Isabel Lavrov had an RBI double and Clarissa Reynoso drove in a pair with a base hit as UCSD led 3-0 after one.

Princeton tied it up in thefourth. Ashley McDonald, Adrienne Chang and Sophia Marsalo had consecutive base hits to start the inning, with Marsalo driving in a run to get Princeton on the board. Two batters later, Allison Ha drove in the tying runs with a base hit.

UCSD got three runs in the fifth, getting three walks and three base hits in the inning. Zoe Richards, Reilly Erickson and Sophia Real had the hits, each driving in a run.

Ali Blanchard and Meghan Harrington split time in the circle in the opener.

In game two, UCSD scored a run in its half of the first, using a base hit and two walks to load the bases before an error on a dropped third strike throw to first allowed the run to score.

Princeton tied it up in the second, with Grace Jackson getting a two-out double and Lauren Sablone dropping one into centerfield to pick up the tying run.

UCSD got back on top in the third, Marissa Hassis had an RBI double to make it 2-1 for the Tritons in that inning before Keila Bosinger had a run-scoring single in the fourth to make it 3-1. A hit and four walks helped add two runs for UCSD in the fifth to make it 5-1, and three hits and a walk helped push the lead to 8-1 in the sixth. Bosinger had a two-RBI double in the inning.
