Baseball Claims Series Victory With 10-6 Win Against Cornell
April 10, 2022 | Baseball
Princeton, N.J. — Princeton won its first Ivy League series of the season with a 10-6 victory over Cornell in Sunday's rubber match.
Noah Granet had a standout day at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with a career-high five RBI, including a bases-clearing three-run triple. Matt Scannell also impressed, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Nadir Lewis extended his lead as Princeton's leader in RBI with a two-run go-ahead home run. He now has 29 RBI on the season. Brendan Cumming and Carlos Abello also provided key momentum in the Tigers' batting order, contributing a pair of hits each.
Andrew D'Alessio earned his first collegiate win this afternoon. He pitched 5.0 innings with four strikeouts. Jason Ramirez earned his first collegiate save with 4.0 near-perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts, no runs allowed, and just two hits given up.
After a 1-2-3 inning from D'Alessio in the top of the first frame, Princeton opened the scoring. With Granet and Lewis on base, Scannell cleaned up with a rope over the left field wall to give Princeton a 3-0 lead.
A couple bases loaded walks and a fielder's choice for the Big Red in the second levelled the score. The visitors took a big lead in the top of the third, as an RBI double and two RBI singles made it a 6-3 ballgame.
Princeton punched back in a big way in the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Granet launched a bases-clearing triple to the warning track in center field. Lewis brought him in on the next at-bat with a no-doubt two-run homer to right field to put Princeton in front, 8-6.
Granet added another two runs with a two-out hit in the fifth. With a pair of Tigers in scoring position, Granet sliced a single through the left side to plate Shapiro and Cumming to give Princeton a 10-6 lead.
Thanks to a strong four innings of relief from Ramirez, Princeton maintained its four-run lead for the rest of the game to secure its first Ivy League series victory of the season.
