Laudenslager Tosses Another No-No as Tigers Complete Weekend Sweep of Yale
April 17, 2022 | Softball
Alexis Laudenslager threw her second no-hitter in a month and the Princeton softball team completed a weekend sweep of Yale on Sunday with 12-0 and 5-4 wins.
Laudenslager, who no-hit Brown on March 20, struck out 10 and allowed just three walks in the five-inning bid, which was televised on ESPNU.
Laudenslager is the second player in program history to throw two solo no-hitters in the same year, along with Erin Snyder '06 in 2005, and the first Tiger to no-hit two Ivy League teams in the same year.
While Laudenslager was quieting the Yale bats, Princeton's offense was hot, scoring in each of its first four at-bats to build the 12-run lead. A walk to Adrienne Chang and a Sophia Marsalo double put two on for Allison Ha, who had a two-run double to make it 2-0 in the first. The next inning, with two on after a third-strike passed ball and an unsuccessful fielder's choice, Serena Starks hit her first career home run, a three-run shot that made it 5-0.
In the third inning, six hits led to five runs, with Grace Jackson, Lauren Sablone, Starks and Chang all driving in runs to make it 10-0. Princeton added the final two runs in the fourth, with Jackson coming home on a base hit by Sablone and Gianna Mavica scoring on a wild pitch.
In game two, each team scored three times in the first inning, with Princeton's runs scoring on an error, a Jackson ground ball and an Ashley McDonald base hit. Chang and Ha had doubles in the third inning to give Princeton a 4-3 lead, and in the fourth, Chang had a base hit to pick up a Haley Hoffman walk and give Princeton a 5-3 lead. That run ended up being the difference after a Maddie Latta home run for Yale made it 5-4 in the sixth.
Chang finished the second game 4 for 4, and 6 for 6 on the day, while Molly Chambers picked up the save in an inning and a third of shutout work after getting the ball from Ali Blanchard during the sixth.
Princeton now leads the Ivy with 11 league wins and will host Penn for three games next Saturday and Sunday.
