Tigers Split Pair with Dartmouth, Series Finale Set for Sunday at Noon
April 02, 2022 | Softball
Following a split on Saturday against Dartmouth at Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field, the Tigers stand one game ahead of Harvard in first place heading into Sunday's series finale.
The day marked Princeton's annual Purple Game for Epilepsy Awareness. Sunday's game is set to start at 12 p.m. (new time) and can be seen on ESPN+. Live scoring is available here.
In Princeton's 8-5 win in the opener, the Tigers rallied after Dartmouth scored four second-inning runs on a walk, a hit batter and three hits. Leila Hennessy had a two-run single and Billie McFadyen had a two-run triple.
Molly Chambers entered in relief of Alexis Laudenslager to start the third and closed out the comeback win with one run allowed on three hits and three walks and a hit batter, striking out six.
Princeton started the comeback in the fourth inning, when Adrienne Chang led off with a home run, singles from Sophia Marsalo, Allison Ha and Lauren Sablone followed, Grace Jackson made it 4-2 on a bases-loaded walk and Serena Starks tied it up with a two-run single that made it 4-4 after four innings.
Princeton pulled ahead on the fifth when Sablone turned in a sacrifice fly after Marsalo walked and Ha had a base hit, putting Princeton in front. The next batter, Ali Blanchard, drilled a two-run home run to push Princeton's lead to 7-4.Â
Haley Hoffman led off the sixth with a single and came home three batters later on a Chang groundout to make it 8-4, and Dartmouth got a run back in the seventh on a Kate Farren groundout as part of a two-hit inning for the Big Green.
In game two, Dartmouth's Brooke Plonka turned in a shutout, limiting the Tigers two three hits and a walk, striking out eight. Blanchard matched Plonka with zeroes through the sixth, but Dartmouth broke through in the seventh on an Alaana Panu leadoff hit that preceded two walks and an unsuccessful fielder's choice later in the inning that added up to two runs.
Starks finished a four-hit day with two hits in the second game.Â
