Men's Lightweight Rowing Prevails In Diamond Challenge Cup
April 09, 2022 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Back on home water for the first time since April 27, 2019, Princeton's No. 4-ranked men's lightweight rowing team defended its home course in a thrilling win to retain the Diamond Challenge Cup over Dartmouth and Delaware.
The 1V edged No. 9 Dartmouth by 0.7 seconds, crossing the finish line first in 5:48.8. That win was one of three on the day for the Tigers who also claimed victory in the 2V and 3V.
"Anytime you can win all of your races on Saturday morning in this league, I'll take it," said head coach Martin Crotty. "It got a little wild with the weather there, we can't seem to find a sunny warm day lately. I loved the approach of the first varsity. It was gutsy, but we've got some technical things to work on this week if we want to be competitive against the likes of Cornell, Penn and Yale."
The Cup win is the fifth in a row for the Tigers overall, improving the First Varsity's 2022 record to 5-1.
Princeton is back on Lake Carnegie on April 16, hosting Cornell for the Platt Cup.
