No. 1 Women's Lightweight Crew Secures Two Golds At Dad Vail Regatta
May 14, 2022 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
PHILADELPHIA – The No. 1 Princeton women's lightweight crew collected two gold medals at the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday afternoon.
Princeton's V8 took home the Bergman Trophy with the time of 6:20.59, two seconds ahead of Georgetown (6:22.64). The other five boats in the race were the open crews of the Hoyas, Boston U., Grand Valley, Purdue and Connecticut.
The Tigers' 2x pair of Amelia Boehle and Kasey Shashaty also picked up a gold medal with 7:17.26, over seven seconds in front of Boston U.
"After coming second here last year we've had it in our minds to come back and try to win it," said Princeton head coach Paul Rassam. "It feels good to pull it off. For our 2x to go out there and take the win as well makes it another good day. We were happy to get all our boats racing and some valuable experience for our young squad. Coach (Peter) Costas is doing a tremendous job with our smaller boats. I can't wait to see what our four and double can accomplish over the next three weeks."
Rassam's 4+ boat secured the top time in its Petite Final (7:18.15), more than 12 seconds in front of Connecticut. The squad's N4A (7:37.63) and N4B (7:44.15) entries collected the two best marks in their Petite Final.
Princeton will next race in the IRA Championships June 1-3 in West Windsor.
