Three from Men’s Track and Field Qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Day one of the NCAA East Regional yielded great results for the Tigers, as three members of the Princeton track and field team qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Meanwhile, four more from the orange and black advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday.
Brothers Sondre Guttormsen and Simen Guttormsen qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the pole vault, finishing tied for third after clearing 5.29 meters. Additionally, C.J. Licata earned himself a spot in the shot put, placing seventh in the shot put with a toss of 19.27 meters.
In the 200 meters, Ibrahim Ayorinde (20.56) placed second in his heat and 13th overall. Daniel Duncan (20.85) was 28th.
In the 400 meters, Michael Phillippy (46.53) earned first place in his heat and 17th overall.
In the 800 meters, Sam Rodman (1:49.00) finished first in his heat and 11th overall. Kieran McDermott (1:51.70) was 39th.
In the 1,500 meters, Sam Ellis (3:46.55) secured third place in his heat and 18th overall. Duncan Miller (3:50.61) was 37th.
Ayorinde, Phillippy, Rodman and Ellis must be in the top-12 to advance past the quarterfinal round.
Racing in the 10,000 meters, Jakob Kintzele (29:44.00) placed 20th, Kevin Berry (30:18.51) took 34th and Matt Grossman (30:21.83) was 35th. Anthony Monte and Josh Zekel posted DNFs.
In the field events, Aviram Shwarzbard (7.45 m) finished 14th in the long jump, Chandler Ault (64.69 m) was 23rd in the javelin and Will Drury (5.04 m) took 27th in the pole vault.
