Kate Joyce Wins Javelin Championship, Breaks Ivy Record on Day One at Heps

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton University women's track & field team sits in fourth place after the first day of the 2022 Outdoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Dwyer Track, on a day that saw Kate Joyce win the Ivy title in the javelin and break three records in her first ever conference championship meet.
Joyce's mark of 51.96 meters beat the previous Ivy League record of 167-10 set by the University of Pennsylvania's Kelsey Hay in 2015, the Heps Meet Record of 164-01 also set by Hay in 2014, and her own school record set at the 2021 Princeton Invitational of 50.44 meters. The Tigers how hold the Ivy League and Heps Meet Records in three out of the four throwing events, as Julia Ratcliffe '17 holds the hammer throw record, and Obiageri Amaehi '21 holds the discus record. Rylie Pease, the 2019 Ivy League champion in the javelin, finished fourth with a mark of 42.30 meters. Emily Wilson's 38.60-meter mark saw her finish eighth.
Grace Lanouette produced finished first in the heats of the 100 meters, with a time of 11.77. Brianna Mponzi's time of 11.84 saw her finish fourth, and Olivia Hee finished eighth in 12.01. Due to the wind being over 2.0 m/s, the times were ineligible to count towards Princeton's all-time top-10.
Annika Kelly finished second in the weight throw, with a mark of 59.54. Luisa Chantler Edmond took seventh, with a 53.26-meter heave.
In the 100-meter hurdles heats, Lily Parris finished seventh with her time of 14.10. Due to the wind being 3.1 m/s, her time was ineligible for the Tigers' all-time top-10 list.
Maggie Hock took second in the heats of the 800 meters, finishing in 2:11.96.
With a time of 1:01.40, Arianna Smith finished fourth in the heats of the 400-meter hurdles. Adelaide Asante's time of 1:04.72 saw her finish ninth.
In the 1,500 meters, Caroline Timm finished eighth in the heats with a time of 4:34.74. Mari Noble finished 13th in 4:36.48, and Maggie Liebich 14th in 4:36.48.
Paola Rodriguez finished 13th in the heats of the 400 meters with a time of 58.41, and India Ingemi 17th in 59.16.
In the long jump, Tia Rozario finished 19th with a best leap of 5.23 meters.
