WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Princeton Men's Heavyweight rowing team takes part in the IRA National Championships this weekend at Mercer Lake.
"Our team has made the most of the last three weeks of training since Sprints and we've made some solid gains," said Princeton head coach Greg Hughes. "I'm proud of the work this group has done, and I can't wait to see them race."
The Tigers began the season with victories over Georgetown, Drexel, Temple before securing the Navy-Princeton Rowing Cup with .9-second decision over the Naval Academy. Hughes' squad dropped the Compton Cup to Harvard before a win by disqualification over No. 1 Yale and win over Cornell. Princeton wrapped up the regular season with a loss to No. 7 Brown. At the Eastern Sprints, each boat qualified for a Grand Final highlighted by the 4+ boat earning bronze.
Aside from the cancellation of the 2020 IRA Championships, Princeton's 1V and 2V has finished in the top 10 at the IRAs each year since 2011, collecting two bronzes (1V) along with three silvers and a bronze (2V). Last season, the 1V placed eighth and 2V secured sixth. The 3V did not run last year but has not finished lower than seventh and corralled a gold in 2016.
Friday's schedule gets underway at 8:10 a.m. with heats/time trials. The afternoon will feature repechages with the semifinals for the varsity four. Saturday will be the semifinals with finals on Sunday.
