WEST WINDSOR – The Princeton women's lightweight rowing team is prepared for the 2022 IRA National Championships this weekend at Mercer Lake.
"The team has prepared thoroughly over the past weeks," said Princeton head coach Paul Rassam. "We're excited to get the racing started."
Princeton began the 2022 season with an impressive 13.1 second victory over Georgetown for the Class of 2006 Cup before taking down Radcliffe for the Class of 1999 Cup. The Tigers then went out west to drop No. 3 Stanford by almost nine seconds. Princeton won the Eastern Sprints before securing two gold medals at the Dad Vail Regatta to finish the regular season.
The Tigers won the 2021 IRA women's lightweight national championship with a 26.3-second decision over Wisconsin. Princeton had a gradual climb to the top spot, placing fourth in 2015 before two third place finishes in 2017-18. In 2019, the Tigers earned a silver before the 2021 gold. Princeton won five straight national championships from 1999-2003.
Racing gets started on Saturday with heats for the lightweight crews getting underway at 8 a.m. The Grand Finals are on Sunday starting at 8:10 a.m.
