PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 16 Princeton University men's track & field team will send 11 entries, the most in the region, to the 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Wednesday, June 8, and Friday, June 10.

Track athletes competing include Michael Philippy (400 meters), Sam Rodman (800 meters), Sam Ellis (1,500 meters), and Ed Trippas (steeplechase). The 4x100 meter relay team of Simang'aliso Ndhlovu, Ibrahim Ayorinde, Daniel Duncan and Greg Sholars will compete in Eugene, as will the 4x400 meter relay team of Ladislav Töpfer, William Doyle, Andersen Dimon and Michael Phillippy.

Sondre Guttormsen and Simen Guttormsen will compete in the pole vault, while C.J. Licata qualified in the shot put. Robbie Otal advanced in the discus, and Jeffrey Hollis in the high jump.

Ivy League Champions
The Tigers won their 21st Outdoor Ivy League Championship in 2022, scoring an all-time Heps best 231 points on route to winning the meet for the fourth-straight season, and completing the triple crown for the 10th time in school history. The victory also marked the 49th Ivy League title under Samara.

Princeton won 12 event championships, and set four meet records, four school records, and one Ivy League record. Daniel Duncan was honored as the Most Outstanding Track Performer after winning two individual events, along with being part of one relay championship.

A Record-Breaking Year
Including both indoor and outdoor records, Princeton set nine new Ivy League records and 18 new school records in 2021-22.

Of those competing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Daniel Duncan (100 meters, 10.17), Sondre Guttormsen (pole vault, 19'11'') and the team of Simang'aliso Ndhlovu, Ibrahim Ayorinde, Duncan, and Greg Sholars (4x100-meter relay, 39.14) set new Ivy records. Ayorinde (200 meters, 20.51), Michael Phillippy (400 meters, 45.93), Sam Rodman (800 meters, 1:47.25), and Robbie Otal (discus, 205'11'') set new program records.

Several Tigers' performances in 2022 rank among the best in the nation. Sondre Guttormsen ranks No. 3 in the pole vault (5.75 meters), Trippas No. 3 in the steeplechase (8:30.25), Simen Guttormsen No. 4 in the pole vault (5.65 meters), Otal No. 7 in the discus (62.77 meters), Hollis No. 16 in the high jump (2.18 meters), Rodman No. 20 in the 800, Licata No. 21 in the shot put (19.41 meters), the 4x100 team No. 28 (39.14), Ellis No. 32 in the 1,500 (3:39.54), and Philippy No. 42 in the 400 (45.93).

Samara at the NCAA Championships
The Tiger have had much success on the national stage under Samara. He has helped mentor eight NCAA Champions; Sondre Guttormsen at indoor in the pole vault in 2022, Donn Cabral in the steeplechase in 2012, the DMR team of Peter Callahan, Russell Dinkins, Austin Hollimon, and Michael Williams in 2013, along with Tora Harris at outdoor in the high jump in 2002.

Additionally, Princeton has had 89 All-America selections under Samara's guidance at both indoor and outdoor NCAAs.
Success at the NCAA Indoor Championships
The Tigers will look to build off their success at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships, where they finished fifth and all eight athletes collected All-America honors. Sondre Guttormsen won the pole vault, while Simen Guttormsen was fourth. Andrei Iosivas finished fourth in the heptathlon with an Ivy record 6069 points, the DMR team of Harrison Witt, Michael Phillippy, Sam Rodman and Sam Ellis placed fourth, and C.J. Licata finished eighth in the shot put.
